Day 20: Add social links to your website

The importance of social media for your site SEO is something we have already discussed in our previous articles. Having links to your social media accounts on your website is a great way of directing people to them. There are some benefits you can get by linking your social media accounts to your website:

1. Helps in link building– Social media links on your website help in directing people to your social accounts, and hence your link building enhances. The more people visit your social links, the more will your web presence increase. Link building is all you need for best SEO results for your website. You can link your social media accounts like that of Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, Twitter etc. These platforms are most popular these days and have a huge audience worldwide. 
2. Better ranking in search engines– Having social media links on your website increase the chance of users getting your website when they search for something on Google. It has been cleared by Google that having your Google+ page linked on your website helps the Google in analyzing the relevancy of your website according to a user query.
3. Easily visible– Place your social links at a place where they are easily visible to the users. The guidelines for placing your links are:

• The top, bottom or side of your home page
• You can let the icons navigate along when the users scroll on your website.
• Make sure your social media accounts are opened in a new tab or window when the users click on the icons.

How to add social media icons to your website:
We will take an example of a WordPress Site here. Login to the admin panel of your website. Follow the given steps to add social media links-

1. Choose the icons from the internet you want to upload for your social media links and download them.
2. Install the icons you have downloaded in the media library or your website.
3. Add a Text Widget to the place on your website where you want to put these icons.
4. With the help of HTML, put these icons in your text widget and link them to your social media accounts.
